M5Stack Setup Guide (Quick Start)

M5Stack boards make it easy to get started with IoT, UI-based projects, and rapid prototyping. Follow these steps to set up any M5Stack Core, Atom, or Stick device:

Install the IDE
Install the Arduino IDE or use PlatformIO (VS Code) if you prefer a more advanced environment.

Add ESP32 Board Support
In Arduino IDE:
Go to File → Preferences and add the ESP32 boards URL in “Additional Boards Manager URLs”. Then open Tools → Board → Boards Manager, search for ESP32, and install it.

Install M5Stack Libraries
Open Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for:

M5Stack (for Core series)
M5Atom (for Atom modules)
M5StickC / M5StickC-Plus (for Stick series)

Install the relevant libraries for your board.

Connect the Board via USB
Use a good-quality USB cable: – Many Cores use USB-C or micro-USB. – Atom and Stick series usually use USB-C. Wait for drivers to install if needed.

Select Board & Port
In Arduino IDE, go to: Tools → Board and select the correct M5Stack/ESP32 board profile. Then choose the correct Tools → Port that appears after plugging in your device.

Upload an Example
Open an example from the M5 libraries (e.g., “Factory Test”, “Hello World”, or a simple display / LED demo), click Upload, and confirm it runs on your M5Stack device.
