RS-485 Breakout Board for XIAO
The Seeed Studio RS-485 Breakout Board is a compact and efficient solution designed to extend the functionality of Seeed Studio XIAO development boards by converting UART serial streams into robust RS-485 signals.
Featuring the high-performance TP8485E half-duplex transceiver IC, this breakout board enables reliable data transmission over long distances—up to 1200 meters—even in high-noise industrial environments.
It operates using a simple 5V or 12V DC power supply and provides convenient RS-485 output through 3-pin terminals for both signal and power connections.
This versatile breakout board is the perfect choice for developers seeking reliable, long-distance serial communication in demanding applications.

RS-485 Wiring Examples
Here are simple and practical wiring setups to help you connect the RS-485 Breakout Board with your XIAO development board and other RS-485 nodes:
-
Basic 2-Wire Half-Duplex Setup:
Connect “A” on the breakout board to “A” on the other RS-485 device and “B” to “B”. Use the XIAO UART pins (TX/RX) for data input.
-
Daisy-Chain Multi-Node Network:
Wire multiple RS-485 nodes in a single bus by connecting all “A” terminals together and all “B” terminals together. Add termination resistors at both ends.
-
Sensor-to-XIAO Industrial Line:
Use the breakout board to read long-distance sensor data over twisted-pair wiring, ensuring noise immunity.
When to Use RS-485
RS-485 is the right choice when your project requires long-distance, noise-resistant, and multi-device communication. It is commonly used in industrial automation, building control systems, remote sensors, and distributed IoT devices. If your project needs reliability over long cables or you want multiple devices talking on the same bus, RS-485 is the ideal protocol.
