CNC shield V4 needs to work with the Nano board. It can be used as a driver’s expansion board for engraving machines and 3D printers. It has in total 3 channel slots for A4988 stepper motor driver modules (not included) for driving 3 channels of stepper motors.
Each channel of stepper motor only needs 2 IO ports, which means 6 IO ports are sufficient to manage 3 stepper motors. This CNC shield can make quick work for managing stepper motors in your project.

A CNC Shield Expansion Board is an electronic device that allows you to build an engraving machine, 3D printer, mini CNC, and other similar devices using your Arduino nano. It is designed as a shield and can plug on top of an Arduino, requiring no external connections and wiring. The CNC Shield V4.0 has four slots on the board for plugging in a stepper motor drive module, which can drive one stepper motor each.
The color typically indicates the variant or version of the A4988 stepper motor driver module, but it doesn’t necessarily denote a specific functional difference. Both red and green A4988 modules generally operate in the same manner: They support microstepping (up to 1/16 steps). They have adjustable current limiting. They use a logic voltage (like 3.3V or 5V) for control signals.
