This pen is optimized for standard pure nickel strips ranging from 0.1mm to 0.15mm in thickness, which is the industry standard for 18650 battery pack building. (Note: Successfully welding thicker strips depends heavily on your external power source's ability to deliver the required ≥800A peak current).
3. Does it need a separate battery/power source to operate, or is it self-contained?
It is not self-contained. This product is a welding head/pen only. It requires an external high-current DC power source (4–12V, ≥800A), such as a dedicated spot welder power supply, supercapacitor bank, or high-discharge battery pack, to function. The power source is sold separately.
