Long-range technology, or LoRa, is a low-power wireless communication system that sends data over long distances using Chirp Spread Spectrum (CSS).
It is interference-resistant and suitable for Internet of Things applications. LoRa Modules works with Arduino Boards and other microcontroller board. Smart systems that heavily rely on LoRa include energy metering, home automation, logistics, cities, healthcare, and agriculture.
LoRa module range is up to 4.8 km in urban areas and 16+ km in rural areas (line-of-sight).
LoRa communication module uses Chirp Spread Spectrum (CSS) to send data over great distances, with the signal frequency changing over time like a chirp. This decreases interference while increasing range.
LoRa devices also uses Adaptive Data Rate (ADR) to increase performance and battery life by adjusting data transfer speed based on network conditions and signal strength. Because LoRa combines CSS and ADR, it is ideal for low-power, long-range Internet of Things applications.
