DS18B20 Waterproof Digital Temperature Sensor Probe

This is a pre-wired and waterproofed version. Handy for when you need to measure something far away or in wet conditions. While the sensor is good up to 125°C the cable is jacketed in PVC so we suggest keeping it under 100°C. Because they are digital, you don't get any signal degradation even over long distances! These 1-wire digital temperature sensors are fairly precise and can give up to 12 bits of precision from the onboard digital-to-analog converter. They work great with any microcontroller using a single digital pin and you can even connect multiple ones to the same pin, each one has a unique 64-bit ID burned in at the factory to differentiate them. Usable with 3.0-5.0V systems.

1. Do I need a resistor for DS18B20?

  • An additional pull-up resistor is required when wiring the DS18B20. Ideally, use  4.7 ohm resistors (yellow, purple, red), but  10K resistors (brown, black, orange) will suffice. This is routed between the digital signal and the power pin. You can use a simple standalone DS18B20 sensor, a waterproof DS18B20 probe sensor, or a high temperature DS18B20 probe sensor. 4.7kΩ resistor.

2. Is DS18B20 a thermistor?

  • The DS18B20 can used in thermally sensitive projects. Thus it can also be used as a Thermistor.

  • A single-wire temperature sensor like the DS18B20 is a device that can measure temperature with minimal hardware and wiring.
