    What Does Binding Mean?

Binding pairs the transmitter with a particular receiver. After binding, the receiver accepts control data from that transmitter rather than simply responding to any compatible radio signal.

The FS-i6 uses AFHDS 2A, and the FS-iA6B also uses AFHDS 2A.

A simple way to understand the process is:

    FS-i6 Transmitter
           ↓
       Bind Mode
           ↓
    2.4GHz AFHDS 2A Link
           ↓
       FS-iA6B Receiver
           ↓
Servo / ESC / Flight Controller

The FS-i6 and FS-iA6B supplied as a combo are normally pre-bound, so you may not need to perform this procedure when using the receiver that came with the transmitter. Rebinding is useful when replacing the receiver or when the existing connection has been lost. FlySky confirms that radios and receivers may be pre-bound from the factory.

    FS-i6 and FS-iA6B Specifications

Display 128 × 64 LCD LED status indicator
Antenna Built-in transmitter antenna Dual antennas
    Receiver Outputs — PWM, PPM, i.BUS, S.BUS

The FS-i6 specifications list AFHDS 2A, six channels, 2.4GHz operation and four AA batteries. The FS-iA6B is specified for AFHDS 2A, six PWM channels and 4.0V to 8.4V power input.

How to Connect the FS-iA6B Receiver for Binding

The receiver needs power before it can enter binding mode.

The FS-iA6B has a B/VCC port that is used for binding. During the binding process, insert the bind plug into the B/VCC port and supply power through another receiver port. The receiver LED should flash rapidly when it enters binding mode.

    Binding Connection

    CH1    ← Power connection
    CH2
    CH3
    CH4
    CH5
    CH6

The exact receiver port used for power can depend on your setup. The important point during this procedure is that the bind plug occupies the B/VCC port while the receiver receives power through another appropriate connection.

    Receiver Power

The FS-iA6B has a specified operating range of 4.0V to 8.4V. Do not exceed the receiver's specified voltage range.

How to Bind FlySky FS-i6 to FS-iA6B

    Follow these steps in order.

Step 1: Turn Off the FS-i6

Make sure the FS-i6 transmitter is completely powered off.

Also make sure the receiver is not powered.

    Before continuing, check that:

    • Throttle is at minimum.
    • Switches are in safe positions.
    • The RC model is secure.
    • Propellers are removed if you are working with a drone.

Step 2: Insert the Bind Plug

Locate the B/VCC port on the FS-iA6B receiver.

Insert the bind plug into this port.

       ↑
    Bind plug

The bind plug is only required while putting the receiver into binding mode.

    Step 3: Power the Receiver

Connect the receiver's power supply through another suitable receiver port.

Once powered, look at the receiver LED.

A rapidly flashing LED indicates that the receiver is in binding mode.

If the LED does not flash rapidly, switch off the receiver and check the bind plug and power connection.

Step 4: Hold the BIND KEY on the FS-i6

Locate the BIND KEY on the FS-i6 transmitter.

    Press and hold it.

Keep holding the BIND KEY while you power on the transmitter.

The FS-i6 enters the binding process while the receiver is already in bind mode.

    Receiver:
Power ON → Rapid LED Flashing

            ↓

    FS-i6:
Hold BIND KEY + Power ON

            ↓

    Transmitter and receiver establish connection

            ↓

    Receiver LED becomes solid

Step 5: Check the Binding Status

When the binding is successful, the receiver LED should stop rapidly flashing and remain solid.

The transmitter may also display an RX Bind OK or equivalent binding confirmation depending on the firmware/version.

This indicates that the FS-i6 and FS-iA6B have established their wireless connection.

Step 6: Release the BIND KEY

Once binding is confirmed, release the BIND KEY.

Do not remove the bind plug while the receiver is still being powered for the initial binding process.

Step 7: Power Off Both Devices

    Turn off:

    • Receiver
    • Transmitter

Then remove the bind plug from the receiver.

The bind plug is required to enter binding mode. It should not remain installed during normal operation.

    Step 8: Power On Normally

    For normal operation:

    • Make sure the FS-i6 throttle is at minimum.
    • Turn on the FS-i6 transmitter.
    • Power the receiver.
    • Wait for the receiver to reconnect.

The receiver LED should remain solid when the wireless connection is established.

How to Know If the FS-i6 and Receiver Are Bound

A successful binding setup should give you these signs:

    Check Expected Result
Receiver during bind Rapidly flashing LED
FS-i6 during bind Binding process starts
Successful bind Receiver LED becomes solid
    After power cycle Receiver reconnects
Control test Connected servos/ESC/flight controller respond

Do not test a motor or propeller while holding the model. For a first bench test, keep the model secured and remove propellers from powered aircraft.

How to Connect a Servo After Binding

If you want to test the receiver using a servo, connect the servo to one of the PWM channel ports.

    For example:

    FS-iA6B

    CH1 → Servo
    CH2 → Servo
    CH3 → Servo
    CH4 → Servo
    CH5 → Servo
    CH6 → Servo

The receiver has six PWM channels. The exact channel assignment depends on the model and transmitter configuration.

After powering the transmitter and receiver, move the corresponding control stick and check the servo response.

If the servo moves in the wrong direction, you can adjust the relevant channel settings through the FS-i6.

How to Connect the FS-iA6B to a Flight Controller

The FS-iA6B can also be used with a flight controller through its digital interfaces.

    The receiver supports:

    • PWM
    • PPM
    • i.BUS
    • S.BUS

For an i.BUS setup, use the receiver's i.BUS output and connect it to a compatible UART receiver input on the flight controller. The flight controller then needs to be configured for the corresponding serial receiver protocol.

The exact wiring and software settings depend on the flight controller and firmware, so use the flight controller manufacturer's documentation for those settings.

What to Do If the FS-i6 Does Not Bind

If the receiver keeps flashing and does not become solid, check these points.

    Check 1: Confirm Protocol Compatibility

The FS-i6 uses AFHDS 2A and the FS-iA6B also uses AFHDS 2A.

FlySky states that AFHDS, AFHDS 2A and AFHDS 3 are not universally compatible. The transmitter and receiver need compatible protocols.

Check 2: Check the Bind Plug

Make sure the bind plug is correctly inserted into the receiver's B/VCC port.

A wrongly placed plug can prevent the receiver from entering binding mode.

Check 3: Check the Receiver Power

    The FS-iA6B requires 4.0V to 8.4V.

Check the power connection and polarity before trying again.

Check 4: Make Sure the Receiver Is Actually in Bind Mode

The receiver LED should rapidly flash when it has entered binding mode.

If it does not, power everything down and repeat the receiver setup.

Check 5: Hold the BIND KEY While Powering the FS-i6

The transmitter must enter its binding state while the receiver is already waiting for a transmitter.

Do not simply turn on the FS-i6 normally and expect it to bind automatically.

Check 6: Try the Complete Procedure Again

    If binding fails:

    1. Turn off the transmitter.
    2. Turn off the receiver.
    3. Insert the bind plug into B/VCC.
    4. Power the receiver.
    5. Confirm rapid LED flashing.
    6. Hold the FS-i6 BIND KEY.
    7. Power on the FS-i6.
    8. Wait for the receiver LED to become solid.
    9. Power off both units.
    10. Remove the bind plug.
    11. Power on the transmitter first.
    12. Power on the receiver.

FlySky's support guidance also recommends checking protocol compatibility and confirming that both devices are correctly placed in bind mode.

What If the Receiver Was Already Bound?

If you are using the FS-i6 with the FS-iA6B that comes in the Robocraze package, the two devices may already be bound.

    The product package specifically includes:

    • 1 × FlySky FS-i6 transmitter
    • 1 × FS-iA6B receiver
    • 1 × user manual booklet

FlySky states that transmitter and receiver combinations can be pre-bound at the factory.

In that case, first try this:

    Power ON FS-i6
           ↓
    Power ON FS-iA6B
           ↓
    Wait for connection
           ↓
    Check receiver LED
           ↓
    Test controls

You only need to perform the binding procedure if the receiver is not connecting, has been replaced, or needs to be paired again.

Does the FS-i6 Work With Other Receivers?

The FS-i6 is designed around the AFHDS 2A protocol. Receiver compatibility should be checked before purchasing a replacement receiver.

The Robocraze product page identifies the included FS-iA6B receiver and lists AFHDS 2A as the communication protocol.

FlySky also advises users to check the transmitter's compatibility information and the receiver manual before attempting to pair different models.

How to Test the Connection Safely

Binding is only the first step. Test the complete control system before operating the RC model.

    For a Servo Setup

Move each control stick and verify that the expected servo responds.

    For an RC Car

Check steering and throttle response with the vehicle lifted or otherwise secured.

    For a Drone

Remove the propellers before testing motor or flight-controller responses.

    For an RC Plane

Keep the aircraft secured and verify servo movement before installing or operating the propeller.

FlySky recommends performing a range test and configuring failsafe before use.

    Final Checklist

Before using the FS-i6 with your RC model, confirm:

    • FS-i6 has four AA batteries installed correctly.
    • Receiver power is within its specified 4.0V to 8.4V range.
    • Bind plug is inserted into B/VCC during binding.
    • Receiver LED flashes rapidly in bind mode.
    • BIND KEY is held while powering on the FS-i6.
    • Receiver LED becomes solid after binding.
    • Bind plug is removed after binding.
    • Transmitter powers on before the receiver during normal operation.
    • Servos, ESCs, or flight controller respond correctly.
    • Failsafe is configured.
    • Range test is completed before operation.

    Final Thoughts

Binding the FlySky FS-i6 to the FS-iA6B receiver takes only a few steps: put the receiver into bind mode with the B/VCC bind plug, hold the FS-i6 BIND KEY while powering on the transmitter, and wait for the receiver LED to become solid.

The FS-i6 uses AFHDS 2A and provides six channels, while the included FS-iA6B receiver supports six PWM channels along with PPM, i.BUS and S.BUS outputs.

Once the receiver is bound, remove the bind plug, power the transmitter first, reconnect the receiver, and test the controls before operating your RC vehicle, aircraft, drone, or robotics project.
