1. What is a PWM DC Motor Speed Controller?

  • The DC Motor Speed Controller allows controlling the direction of a DC motor using a Pulse-Width-Modulated (PWM) DC voltage with a Duty Cycle fully adjustable from 10%-100%. The motor speed controller can provide a continuous current of 8A to your DC motor or other DC load. The circuit also includes a 10A fuse, with the reverse connection of power supply and control voltage over-voltage protection function.

2. How does PWM affect motor speed?

  • The motor will run at a speed halfway between zero and full speed if we switch the power on and off quickly enough. A PWM controller does exactly that it turns on the motor in a series of pulses. Pulse Width Modulation is used to control the motor speed by varying (modulating) the width of the pulses.

3. How does PWM control speed of DC motor?

  • Pulse width modulation speed control works by driving the motor with a series of “ON-OFF” pulses and varying the duty cycle, the fraction of time that the output voltage is “ON” compared to when it is “OFF”, of the pulses while keeping the frequency constant.
