Hex Schmitt Trigger Inverter IC - 74HC14

The 74HC14 is a hex Schmitt trigger inverter integrated circuit (IC) with six independent Schmitt trigger inputs. Each input has an active high and active low output.

The 74HC Series 74HC14 contains six independent gates each of which performs the logic INVERT function. Each input has hysteresis which increases the noise immunity and transforms a slowly changing input signal to a fast-changing, jitter-free output.

1.What is the function of 74HC14?

  • The 74HC14 operates as a comparator, and the built-in hysteresis provides noise immunity on the input terminals, so one of them is square wave signal conditioning and cleanup. This makes it an excellent contender for low-level signal acceptance in industrial applications or other areas where signals may be noisy.

2.How does a Schmitt trigger work?

  • A Schmitt trigger is a comparator circuit with hysteresis implemented by applying positive feedback to a comparator or differential amplifier's noninverting input. It is an active circuit that converts a digital input signal to an analogue input signal.
