1. How does a magnetic float sensor work?

  • The 'wet-side' magnet on the float repels the opposing magnet within the 'dry-side' switch mechanism in a strong snap movement, activating the switch. When the liquid level in a tank falls below a certain level, the float pivots downwards, repelling the opposing magnet and activating the switch.

2. How do you test a float sensor?

  • Connect the MultiMeter leads to the wires of the float switch.  The Multimeter should be set to the Ohms.  When the float is in the down position, the MultiMeter should read zero. By lifting the float, the zero will become one.
