The VL53L0X laser ranging sensor from ST Microelectronics is a time-of-flight ranging system integrated into a compact module. This time-of-flight (TOF) measurement enables it to accurately determine the absolute distance to a target without the object's reflectance greatly influencing the measurement.

Applications:

  • Obstacle detection in robotics.
  • Hand detection in hand driers, soap dispensers, faucets, etc.
  • Gesture recognition in one dimension.
  • Widely used in-camera autofocus to enhance the camera performance in low light or fast-moving objects conditions.

Good VL53L0X board compared to others out there

This is better than others out there as it has
1. Protective cover over the actual VL53L0X sensor.
2. All Pins are in the one line. 6 Pin header wires will do the connection that we want.
3. No need to solder anything. Everything comes ready to use.
4. Two mounting holes are better to have than one for few Sensor boards out in market.
Have tested the sensor and is working as expected for (Using in Long range mode) upto 6 ft measurement.

I connected it to an ESP32 board and read the sensor using ESPHome. It worked exactly as it should. I also tested its accuracy, and it's very accurate.
