SIM800L V2 GSM GPRS Module

The SIM800L V2 5V Wireless GSM GPRS module provides power supply compatibility with 5V and can be easily connected to a computer for debugging via USB to TTL serial port. It has an output current of 800mA, and its TTL serial interface is compatible with both 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers. You can directly connect it to your single-chip computer after purchasing.

The GSM module features an IPX antenna and offers the flexibility to switch between a PCB glue stick antenna and suction cups. With support for four-frequency communications, this module allows data connectivity worldwide.

The SIM800L GSM GPRS module is a quad-band module that works with Arduino. It offers GSM functionality including voice calls and SMS, as well as GPRS capabilities. This module operates at a voltage of 5V for both the VCC and TTL serial levels.

The SIM800L module includes a built-in regulator circuit and a TTL-level converter while many GPRS/GSM modules on the market require additional components such as a 5V regulator and level converter circuit.

1. What is the SIM800L GPRS GSM module?

  • SIM800L GSM/GPRS module is a small GSM modem that can be integrated into a variety of IoT projects. You can use this module to do almost anything a regular cell phone can, such as send SMS text messages, make or receive phone calls, connect to the internet via GPRS, TCP/IP, and more.

2. Can SIM800L connect to internet?

  • SIM800L supports General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) for internet access via HTTP. The module includes a TCP/IP stack that can be accessed using AT commands. This is particularly useful for persistent data logging on low bandwidth networks.

3. Does SIM800L support 4G SIM?

  • SIM800L only supports 2G services. If it is not getting network, try another 2G card and connect the GSM antenna. I use Airtel 4G SIM cards as well as Vodafone 4G sim cards. They operate normally on a 2G network.

4. How do I know if SIM800L is working?

  • If the SIM800L receives enough power, the onboard LED begins to blink. If it is blinking every second, it is looking for a network. It will blink every three seconds if it is connected to the network. If the LED blinks rapidly, it indicates that it is connected via GPRS.

5. How does GSM module work?

  • A customized Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) module is designed for wireless radiation monitoring through Short Messaging Service (SMS). This module can receive serial data from radiation monitoring devices such as survey meters or area monitors and send it to a host server as text SMS.
