PL2303HX USB To TTL Converter Cable

This is the PL2303HX USB To TTL Converter Cable , The cable is the simplest way to connect to the serial console port of your microcontroller/Raspberry Pi/WiFi router. A USB to Serial conversion chip is housed inside the large USB plug, and at the end of the 1M cable are four wires - red power, black ground, white RX into the USB port, and green TX out of the USB port.

The power pin receives 5V @ 500mA directly from the USB port, while the RX/TX pins are 3.3V levels for interfacing with most 3.3V logic level chipsets. This cable is ideal for powering and connecting to the debug/login console on the Raspberry Pi or BeagleBone Black due to the separated pin plugs.

Also useful for hacking WiFi routers to instal alternate operating systems, or almost any other 3.3V logic serial port. Because the wires are separated, this is often easier to use than an FTDI cable.

1. What is a USB to TTL converter?

  • The USB TTL Serial cables are a range of USB to serial converter cables which provide connectivity between USB and serial UART interfaces. A range of cables are available offering user specified signal levels with various connector interfaces.

2. How do I know if my USB to TTL converter is working?

  • Use a jumper wire and connect the RXD pin to the TXD pin of your USB-to-TTL adapter and plug it in to one of the USB ports of your Windows PC.
  • Press Win+R to open the Run dialog, type devmgmt.
  • In the Device Manager, expand Ports (COM & LPT) and check the port number assigned to your USB-to-TTL adapter.

3. How many connections can be made to a TTL serial port?

  • When connecting it to any TTL Serial Port, only three connections are required: GND, RX, and TX. Furthermore, if your electronic device does not use voltage as the source to which USB is connected, Vcc should not be connected.
